Outer Journey-
My favorite art work that I got to look at was from the French Market. Sarah the artist selling her art work was a very wonderful person, and she explained her work a little but not with too much detail. Sarah goes around the city of New Orleans taking picture black and white and sells them. She explained that when looking at a picture black and white it makes the city more meaningful when you see it in color. I do have a picture of the art that I bought from Sarah. It was a picture of the Spanish architecture at a corner, and I did end up going to the corner and I thought the it was amazing to see the picture in black and white and them actually going to the spot and seeing it in color and being able too visualize the specific design and the colors of the buildings. I do have a picture of the art but I am not sure if I should pot it even though I have the original copy of the painting so in order to be on the save side I will not be posting the picture of the art. From being on the tour with Milton and being able to walk down and see all the architecture it was just amazing and the picture from Sarah was the exact same it was beautiful in black and white and then seeing it in color it was even more glorious that I thought was on the canvas that I bought.
Inner Journey-
I loved Sarahs work because I think black and white speaks a lot more than color sometimes. I think that being able to see something in black and white shows a lot of purpose and that is why I bought this painting from Sarah. I thought the the painting showed a lot of purpose of the architecture in New Orleans, and explain a lot since the city as been through a lot with the fires they experiences which burned a lot of the fabulous architecture down. Sarahs work speaks to me because for the longest time in my life I wanted to be a photographer and specifically take black and white pictures so people would be able to see the difference from a black and white to the actually thing when they stand it front fit physically. I think black and white picture speak a lot. It is just like movies before color. The story of black and white describes a lot I describes what it was like back in the old times when people had to do a lot of thing including watching T.V which was in black and white. I think I like the story it speaks because I wish would have grown up in the time where people had to watch movies in black and white with no sound just so you had to anticipate what was actually happening.

Loving the Music
Outer Journey-
Through the time I have been in New Orleans I have heard a lot of music. Jazz, Brass band, and the classic Blues. I would have to say that Jazz has to be my favorite music I have heard since I have been in New Orleans. My favorite experience with listening to music is probably when we were on the cemetery tour and we stopped a listed to our tour guides cousin on the street. I just thought this was so interesting because it was like he knew everyone around the city, but at every street corner there was someone always playing music, and it was such a beautiful thing down in New Orleans. I also think that the little boys playing the drums on the five-gallon buckets was also so interesting because it didn't just sound like someone beating on drums it was a good tune that you would dance to. Down in New Orleans I think it was amazing to see how everyone designs their own music with what they are given. I did not get any pictures of the performers playing their music, but it is just impressive to see them get up at 8 in the morning to start playing music all day to make a living it is just so amazing to me that they would be this committed to something like music.
Inner Journey-
The city has spoken to me a lot through music. On our last day there in New Orleans when we went to Cafe De Monde there were five to six people playing on the corner their classic Jazz music. I wrapped my head around this the last day that they people play music gather in Jackson Square to show people their talent and to make a quick buck, and to make a living for their family. It wasn't just music that spoke me here it was everything these New Orleanais would to do make more, but on the music aspect it was to play music for tourist, and locals so they could enjoy their day get drunk. Many people listen to these artists play their music, and do not tip them and realized that this was more of the locals that did that. From what I was seeing around New Orleans it was the tourist, and visitors that would watch and that would be the big tippers for these amazing performs on the street corners or on Bourbon street. On Tuesday I did have the opportunity to walk down Bourbon Street, and it was so ironic that all the performers that were on Jackson Square during the day happened to sendup on Bourbon Street performing for all the drunks that were giving tips right and left when Sophie and I walked down.

Home Bound :)
Outer Journey-
I would say that the St. Louis Cathedral would be my favorite place in the French Quarter because it is a beautiful church, and I think since I am Catholic I can really relate to the city because they are mostly all Catholic. The St. Louis Cathedral represents so much more to. It was there meeting place for different things especially when it is hurricane season. I love the bell towers on the cathedral. It really adds a lot of architecture to the church, and bring it a lot of meaning not only to people who visit but also the people in the community. I will definitely miss the St. Louis Cathedral because I wish I could have gone to mass there either on the Sunday or during the weekday, but I just didn't have time to do everything I wanted to do there so when I visit there I will defiantly make sure I sit in that beautiful church with the beautiful and meaningful painting all around us that we can look at and know this is why we are Catholics. I am definitely thinking about coming back but bringing my whole family down here. My whole family including myself some the south due to the warm weather we love the sun beating down on us, and enjoying the beautiful things we see when we visit down south. Every time we go on vacation my family and I always plan on going somewhere warm wear we can wear-shrts or shorts and somewhere away from the cold. I would defiantly tell others to visit if they are wanting to learn a lot about the history of New Orleans and all the catastrophes that have happened hear in the city. I also think that if people are willing to go somewhere where it isn't to expensive to go on tours, and learn about everything that has happened here. I would describe my experience as a fabulous one. I enjoyed every minute that we were down here, and I would come back next week if I could just so I had enough time to do everything that I wanted to do and of course take more awesome tours with these amazing tour guides that are down here in New Orleans.

During this whole trip I had a lot of favorites. The favorite part of the class that I thought was really interesting and fun was the cuisine tour. The cuisine tour was my favorite because since I haven't been to New Orleans since now I have never had po'boy, or a muffuletta I was really happy to go on a cuisine tour so was able to try different things so I wasn't wasting money on food I did not like. My favorite part of the class was being able to see the different sites, and throughout the whole city as well as learning about the city through may tours. I think this is my favorite part because I learned a lot more about the city of New Orleans and the people in it. In New Orleans I learned a lot about the people. In my dads side of the family we are strict Catholics, and from what I always thought was that Catholics didn't drink. On the very first day when we were doing the Ghost tour Ina said that they were heavy drinkers here and that they were all Catholics. So on the first night I had a bunch on unanswered questions about my religions, but then I realized that my grandpa was just against drinking and didn't really enjoy people who drank. From being here in New Orleans for little less than a week I was able to tell that they were heavy drinkers, and they loved to party. I also learned a lot about myself while being here in New Orleans. I learned that I am a fragile little girl and the dark still scares me especially when I am not extremely and 100% comfortable with the environment. I did go out a couple nights with a group but I was still uncomfortable with being out even with a group. I also learned that I still love to travel, but I love traveling with my family instead of a group from the school. Even though I wasn't 21 to I still has a good time and I was still able to experience Bourbon Street, and I think it was a lot more fun being sober that being drunk.

January 7th
Outer Journey-
Today we learned a lot about religion, history, and architecture in our tours today. We also learned about the crazy historical medical practices they did back in the 1800's and 1900's.With learning all about this stuff today I think the most interesting experience of all today was the Pharmacy tour. Our tour guide was so funny, and he really explained everything extremely well. The one thing I found super interesting during the tour was how they use to cut the pills. We got to physically see the pills that were cut, and they were all shapes and sizes and the tour guy told us that the pills were not equal dispersed with the medication. When he said that I was just shocked about how and why people would take these pills not knowing exactly the correct dosage was in each pill. In the upstairs on the old pharmacy there were many tools for midwifery. Looking at some of the tools that they would use to grab the baby by its head in order to pull in out I thought that was just bizarre because I think it could hurt the baby more than actually being able to push a baby out. I also thought the shots they were given were crazy because they never changed the needles so everyone who needed a shot used the same needle, and to me I am surprised they didn't die from having HIV/AIDS. All in all I thought the pharmacy tour was absolutely awesome. I think it really shows us how medicine has improved over the years, and how vaccines and the different medical tools have change as well.

Today we learned a lot about the city. The city spoke to me through the St. Louis Cathedral. I think the most impactful thing about the cathedral was how people really respect their religion in New Orleans. I also thing since I was born and raised Catholic seeing a beautiful church it just made me realize about why I love my religion so much. I learned a lot about the churches today, and the history behind them. It wasn't just the history I loved and learned about. It was also just the history with the fire, and the church falling that I didn't know about that made it also so special with how they rebuild it. I think with all that New Orleans has been through they have made their city so beautiful and it makes a very good place for tourists to come. In the convent I learned a lot about the nuns and about what they did for the church, and I think the nuns put in a lot of work to build these churches to what they are today.

January 6th
Outer Journey-
Today was the first day since the trip that we had a free day. Today Sophie and I shopped until we dropped. We went to the 'Shops of Canal Street', and what I thought was the most interesting part was being able to take today and actually be able to really look at the scenery, and be able to do what we wanted on our own time. The first thing walking into the 'Shops of Canal Street' were this really amazing looking elevators. They were all glass, and it landed in water when you went down from the third floor. From looking at the malls back home to this mall it was extremely huge! The mall was all spread out, and the stores were huge inside as well. Later that day, we went down by the Riverwalk and the water was absolutely beautiful. It was as calm as a baby sleeping, and you could hear the wind through the trees. It was so relaxing! Going into that outlet mall my jaw dropped. It was ginormous. Just like the 'Shops of Canal Street' this mall had four floors, and big food court. The outlet and the 'Shops of Canal Street' are very similar it felt like the malls went on forever, and the stores were huge. Unlike the malls back home we don't have the luxury of getting as big of a mall or a food court for that matter. Coming to New Orleans it really makes me understand what we are missing because we live in such a small community. From visiting New Orleans it really makes me want to move out of the state of Illinois, and be at a place where things are so convenient and you do not have to drive everywhere you go.

Being alone today is was a good experience. I really enjoyed being able to just go out and explore New Orleans by myself, and just relax a bit from all the walking we have been doing. I think being able to travel with my group of friends today was fun. We were able to just do what we do back home which is shop, but we also enjoyed actually being able to look at the thing throughout New Orleans. It taught me that I am able to go out by myself and not having to be chaperoned by a teacher but also it also taught me a good lesson to always make sure you are traveling in a group because there are a lot of weird people in the world. Being able to travel by ourselves today I think the city spoke to me a little more. By this I mean that I wan't just listening to someone talk, or me reading things off walls. I was able to actually get to know the city, and be able to look and actually be a tourist. I think the most enlightening part of being able to go out by myself was to just see exactly how big New Orleans is as well as how HUGE there malls are. There malls just blow my mind to exactly how big they are.

January 5th
Today we did many things! We went to the Presbytere, Cabildo, and the Jazz Museum. For my outer journey I will be talking about the Presbytere. When we started the tour of the museum what I thought was so interesting and cool was how they had the fans going, and the lights going like you were actually living in Hurricane Katrina. I thought I gave a really good representation of how windy the hurricane was, and exactly how much lighting and thundering that occurs with a hurricane. Since Hurricane Katrina was our groups project to do I think that the museum really spoke to me, and it really was just sad to see exactly how many people were affect by this hurricane. In the Presbytere there was a lot of good information that we read, and through the videos that were all over that I really got from the Presbytere. Reading about Hurricane Katrina, and Hurricane Rita really got to me because it really shows about how many people really get affected by there terrible tragedies as well as how long the process it takes to rebuild, and to get everyone evacuated. Another thing that I found super interesting in the Presbytere were these demonstrations about what happens when the wetlands get to wet to hold the water, and then it all eventually goes into the city. To me I think it really showed how much the wetlands can actually handle as well as how much it really affects the city when there are no wetlands to absorb it all.

January 4
Outer Journey-
Today for my outer journey I will be talking about the cuisine tour. To start our cuisine tour off we started at Tujagues. The first thing we started off was with this delicious pull pork sandwich with tomato, lettuce, and a little bit of horse radish. I am a person who is not a fan of horse radish, but I decide to give it a try and it was probably one of the best pull pork sandwiches I had. Our second stop on the cuisine tour was the Creole Delicacies. If anyone knows me they know that I am a super picky person when it comes to eating things I am unaware of. When we stopped at the Creole Delicacies we had a red bean and rice soup, and a Marti Gras dip that you could use chips or crackers with. At this stop I was not as hesitate as I was with the pull pork sandwich, but the red bean and rice soup was no nice and warm, and it was especially good when I added hot sauce in it. Just going to those two stops you could definitely tell the difference between the two different restaurants. Just going into the different stores you can tell by the different smells, and aromas that they were two different restaurants.

Today I learned a lot of stuff. I learned a lot about the cemetery's and about the history of them. With the cemetery's I learned about how they refurbish the grave stones, and I got to witness what happens when the plaster falls off. Once we got done with the cemetery tour we went into Congo Square. In the square we learned about the Native Americans, and African Americans with about the dancing with what they do one Sundays. I thought learning about the Native Americans and the African Americans were interesting due to how the slaves all came to the Square and came as a whole group. They like talked about in my outer journey we went to the cuisine tour where I learned about all the different types of food, and where it all came from as well as the history of the different restaurants that all the food came from and how many generations there have been.

Arrival
Outer Journey-
Once we arrived at the train station I thought it was super neat everything was organized until we had to wait for our luggage. My experience on the train is definitely once to remember I was constantly moving around after I woke up, and could not get comfortable at all. Traveling to the hotel was just a normal thing because I Uber a lot in bigger cities when my family and I go visit so I didn't really experience anything from riding in the Uber. I do enjoy taking Uber's though it saves a lot of hassle from having to walk miles an miles with all of the luggage we all had. I thought the French Quarter, and Jackson Square were beautiful. The cathedral definitely looks a lot better in person. Since it was our first night here in New Orleans I think that getting to know the street names, and just looking around was a good experience. The next thing that I thought was a super good experience was were we had dinner. Original Pierre Maspero's it defiantly had its own style, and uniqueness to it. I did not go out of my comfort zone on the first night, but I did have a Goddess salad that was really good, and the sauce that was on it was delicious. Lastly for my outer journey I will be talking about the Ghost tour. The Ghost tour was fantastic. I am that person that doesn't believe in ghosts but after hearing the stories that were told from our tour guide, and the pictures that she showed us it made me start to realize that ghosts are a real thing. I think experiencing all the different stories knowing how they died, and why they died kind of opened my eyes to how people got treated back in the old days. I thought from the moment we arrived it was a wonderful, and fun experience all around and I can not wait for the next week ahead of us.

I am a type of person like stated before in my outer journey that isn't a fan of ghosts. Starting the tour off I thought it was going to be boring, and I wasn't going to have fun. As the tour went on I started to see myself really start engaging and enjoying the stuff our tour guide was telling us. I really enjoyed the Ghost tour, and I think I believe in ghosts now. Our second spot that we stopped at I thought was so interesting because it talked about all the fires that happened and all of there people that died. I think over all the tour was super interesting, and fun. I can't wait for the rest of the trip.

January 3rd
Outer Journey-
When we all arrived in Champaign everything seemed normal. My family and I always travel in the summer so I am use to having to wait for trains or planes. Everything that I saw at the train station seemed normal to me just people waiting to board the train to get ready to go to the place they need to be. Sleeping on the train was not a good experience. Even though I have been on Amtrak to go Chicago which is only a 2 hour drive being of a train for seventy plus hours is extremely stressful to me. I was up what felt like every hour just because I was unable to get comfortable, and when I did start falling asleep we would hit a bump, and then I would wake back up again. I was up from 3a-6a and then I finally was able to go back to sleep until 9a. From the time I was up from 3a- 6a the quietness was so peaceful, and relaxing. Looking around from what I could see it was just no movement at all, and it made the ride super relaxing for me and I was able to go back to sleep until we stopped in Memphis. After Memphis I woke back up again, and it felt like we were sitting there for hours when it was only about 45 minutes. After leaving Memphis I was able to go back to sleep until about 9a. I did end up waking up because I was super cold, and there was a breeze hitting me.
Inner Journey-
When waiting at the train station in Champaign it was so long. I am the person that hates waiting for things for long periods of time, and to wait for the train for two hours it was rough. In the meantime, waiting for the train I got to know my roommates a little more. Sophie and I already knew each other but I had no idea who Sommer or Marybeth were. I think that getting to know my roommates better will make it less awkward to go and do things with on out free day. I think that while waiting for the train I got to know them pretty well. I was super excited after we boarded the train because I could finally just sit back and relax and try and fall asleep. Now that I am awake and can do my blog I love being able see the different environment that others live in. As well as, I am wondering why gas is always so much cheaper in the South. Since we are getting close to New Orleans my excitement is bursting I can’t wait to be able to see Louisiana. I have been close to Louisiana but not actually in Louisiana. So as I’m reaching a new state I have never been to I just can’t wait to see the town, and culture .
